Jeannette Orr is a self-taught artist whose practice has evolved from textiles into painting.
Beginning in dressmaking and quilting, she developed a sensitivity to pattern, colour, structure,
and surface that continues to inform her work. As an award-winning quilter, she received a
Symposium Award for Nascondino, shaping her disciplined yet intuitive approach.
After completing a four-year Design Degree in 2000, the principles of her textile practice
translated naturally into visual art—stitch becoming mark, fabric becoming surface—while
maintaining a strong sense of rhythm and layering.
In 2021, she semi-retired to run an accommodation business with her husband, Bruce, creating
time and space to refocus on her art. Her debut exhibition, Adjustment, explored themes of
transition and adaptation, with Adjustment 2 continuing this inquiry.
Working across watercolour, coloured pencil, alcohol inks, fabric, and acrylics, her practice
draws on garden and animal forms, balancing observation with intuitive, material-led
exploration.
