Rebecca Kempton is a Multi Award Winning Professional Photographer and works full time as a Fine Art, Commercial and Portrait Photographer in the Wairarapa. In 2025 Rebecca was awarded New Zealand Landscape Creative Photographer of the Year and was selected for Team NZ in the World Photographic Cup. Rebecca’s artwork is often described as emotive, powerful, thought provoking and painterly, Rebecca creates her work using her camera as her paintbrush to ‘paint’ as she sees the landscape and world around her. Rebecca currently exhibits her work predominantly at the Greytown Art Gallery and ships her work to clients throughout New Zealand and internationally.

Linda Kirkland is a South Wairarapa–based abstract artist whose work unfolds through intuitive layers of paint, mixed media, and remembered experience. From her garden studio on the outskirts of Greytown, she creates paintings, collages, and works on paper that explore emotional resonance, colour, and the quiet narratives held within landscapes. Guided by instinct, Linda embraces spontaneity, allowing each mark to emerge from a dialogue between memory, place, and the natural world. Her deep love of plants and flowers often informs the organic forms and shifting palettes that appear throughout her work. An exhibiting artist and experienced educator, Linda also hosts workshops that encourage creative confidence and playful exploration. Her practice invites viewers to slow down, feel their way into the work, and form their own personal connection with the stories held in each layered surface.
Christopher Davidson – 1519 State Hwy 2, Tauwharenīkau
Chris Davidson | Illustrator & Artist Chris Davidson is a Wairarapa-based professional illustrator and artist. Since graduating from the School of Design in the mid-90s, he’s worked as a freelance artist across New Zealand, Britain, and France. While most of his career has focused on commercial artwork, Chris has always explored new styles and is currently embracing an exciting new creative direction. This transition recently led to his first exhibition in 20 years at the Wairarapa Art Review, where his piece Sentry won both the Exciting Use of Colour Award and the People’s Choice Award. With a keen eye for detail, colour, and composition, Chris is looking forward to developing this direction and the creative evolution it brings.
Jeanette Orr • The Grey Studio Design 13 Carrington Drive Carterton
Jeannette Orr is a self-taught artist whose practice has evolved from textiles into painting. Beginning in dressmaking and quilting, she developed a sensitivity to pattern, colour, structure, and surface that continues to inform her work. As an award-winning quilter, she received a Symposium Award for Nascondino, shaping her disciplined yet intuitive approach. After completing a four-year Design Degree in 2000, the principles of her textile practice translated naturally into visual art—stitch becoming mark, fabric becoming surface—while maintaining a strong sense of rhythm and layering. In 2021, she semi-retired to run an accommodation business with her husband, Bruce, creating time and space to refocus on her art. Her debut exhibition, Adjustment, explored themes of transition and adaptation, with Adjustment 2 continuing this inquiry. Working across watercolour, coloured pencil, alcohol inks, fabric, and acrylics, her practice draws on garden and animal forms, balancing observation with intuitive, material-led exploration.
Cate Godwin • 34 Victoria Street Masterton
Cate Godwin is a printmaker whose practice is grounded in both intaglio and relief processes. Her work explores interior and exterior environments through landscape and still life, often incorporating a Pacific context. Drawing on her background in textile design, she creates original patterns inspired by local plants and natural textures, reflecting a strong interest in surface and repetition. Godwin’s practice continues to evolve, with recent work moving into mixed media painting as she explores a looser, more abstract approach. She studied under John Drawbridge and Kate Coolahan at Wellington Polytechnic, completing a Diploma in Textile Design, and later gained a Postgraduate Diploma of Fine Arts from Massey University, alongside a Diploma of Teaching. With over 25 years’ experience teaching visual art at secondary level, she brings depth and discipline to her practice.

Jo Lysaght is a South Wairarapa printmaker working primarily with lino and woodcut mediums. All prints are printed by hand on her home etching press and are limited editions. Esther Bunning is a full-time photographic artist with over 35 years of experience. Her work is recognised for its distinctive, dreamlike quality, often carrying a quiet sense of magic. She captures people and landscapes in deeply personal ways, revealing subtle layers that might otherwise go unnoticed. Bunning continually experiments with creative techniques and tools, bringing an unexpected edge to her photography. Her landscapes and organic works extend this approach, combining photography with elements of painting, drawing, texture, and light to create vibrant, expressive pieces. A Nikon Ambassador for New Zealand and an Asukabook Ambassador for Australasia, her work is held in private collections both nationally and internationally.

Evan Davies is a freelance photographer whose work is shaped by a lifelong interest in light, image-making, and visual storytelling. His photographic journey began in the school darkroom, where he first learned to develop photographs by hand, an experience that strongly influenced his thoughtful and methodical approach to photography. After initially pursuing photography, Davies spent several years working in Information Technology, where he developed strong problem-solving skills and technical precision. Despite this, the creative pull of photography led him back to the field professionally. Although his tools have transitioned from analogue film to digital systems, his approach remains grounded in the fundamentals of light, composition, and patience. His work focuses on capturing moments that convey emotion and narrative, often preserving scenes that might otherwise go unnoticed. Today, Davies produces photographic work that reflects both technical discipline and a deep appreciation for the expressive power of a single image.

Carolina Vargas-Gonzalez is a Chilean-born ceramic artist based in Martinborough, New Zealand. Her work explores the intersection between sculptural form and functional object, working across both handbuilding and wheel-throwing techniques, with a strong emphasis on textured surfaces and layered glazing processes. Working under the name Nidito Ceramics, she has been developing her practice for over 10 years through workshops, commissions, exhibitions, and markets. Her work often carries subtle Latin American sensibilities, reflecting her upbringing and cultural background. Alongside her ceramics practice, Carolina has been studying architecture since 2021 and is currently undertaking a Master of Architecture. This dual practice informs her work through an ongoing exploration of structure, balance, void, and spatial experience.

Annie holds a Diploma in Creativity from The Learning Connexion, where she developed a strong focus on printmaking. She also enjoys working in oils, ink, and watercolour. Annie’s designs often include botanical and native flora and fauna, with hints of New Zealand’s cultural influences and landscapes. She hopes to suggest a sense of transparency, elegance and thoughtful contemplation in her work. Annie hand prints her designs. She prefers collagraph (intaglio) and linocut (relief) printing methods. Her work is produced in limited edition runs on fine art paper, using soy based inks. Annie’s work is exhibited throughout the Wairarapa and New Zealand. Annie is a member of the New Zealand Print Council, and has been featured in Proof, a publication highlighting New Zealand printmakers.

Anna draws inspiration from the ever-changing natural environment which surrounds her, as well as from memories of places that form a part of her personal history. Her work is invitation to the viewer to reflect on their connection with the natural world. While abstract her work speaks of landscape. Anna is a mixed media artist working predominantly with oil and cold wax medium. In her printmaking practise found materials inspire her collagraph printmaking.

Hugh Gaywood-Eyre is a self-taught artist originally from England, now based in the Wairarapa, New Zealand, where he has lived since 2007. With a background rooted in family traditions of needlework and soft furnishings, he has long felt at ease with thread and textile, embracing the intricate detail and flexibility the medium offers. As his eyesight has declined, he has transitioned from larger textile works into mosaics—a natural evolution supported by his strong sketching foundation. Working with broken glass and ceramics, he creates tesserae that echo the rhythm and movement of tapestry, balancing geometric precision with organic flow. His work draws inspiration from nature, travel, and ancient symbolism, particularly Egyptian and Moorish design. Influenced by European art movements and rich visual cultures abroad, his pieces aim to capture fleeting moments of beauty—offering viewers a quiet, joyful pause in the everyday.

ARATOI – Wairarapa Museum of Art and History – 12 Bruce St, Masterton
Aratoi’s current exhibitions include Carterton local Andrea Singer, Whanganui glass artist Hannah Bremner, animator Simon Ray, Breadcraft Wairarapa School’s Art and the social history exhibition Patented: Inventions that Changed the World. The museum marked its 50th anniversary in 2019 with a major exhibition, public programmes, and a publication. Currently, Aratoi hosts between 20-25 exhibitions annually, delivers a free education programme to thousands of students, runs public programmes, and operates a museum shop. The Aratoi collection remains the only public collection of art works in Wairarapa. Small entry fee required.

Justine is a Wairarapa- based oil painter and educator, with a background in ceramics.
SHARON FISHER, WearMe • Jewellery – 21 Philip St, Carterton
Sharon Fisher is a Wairarapa-based jewellery artist who creates each piece individually from her Carterton studio. Inspired by a long appreciation of artisan jewellery, she began designing and making her own work after training in France in metal clay techniques. Her process begins with metal clay—fine particles of silver or bronze suspended in an organic binder—allowing each piece to be shaped, textured, and sculpted by hand. Once kiln-fired at high temperatures, the material transforms into solid metal, resulting in pieces that are inherently unique. Sharon works primarily with fine silver, .960 sterling and bronze. Her current work explores texture and geometric form. Sharon opens her Carterton studio on weekends. Her work is also available at Aratoi Museum of Art and History (Masterton), the National Library of New Zealand shop (Wellington), Gallery 23 (Carterton), and the Heart of Arts Gallery (Carterton).

Simon King is a multidisciplinary artist whose studio practice spans both 2D and 3D media. Masterton Art Club (MAC) – 12 Victoria St, Masterton
Masterton Art Club (MAC) is a long-standing art organisation based in the heart of Masterton. Established in 1921 by nine women as a sketch club, it was founded to promote the study and practice of arts in the Wairarapa. Today, MAC is a vibrant club with over 70 members working across a wide range of mediums, including painting, drawing, textile art, pastel, mixed media, book art, and printmaking. The club provides a welcoming and supportive environment where artists of all levels can meet regularly, share ideas, and develop their practice. Through a programme of activities, workshops, and events, MAC continues to foster creativity and nurture artistic talent within the community. It also opens its studio and gallery space to the public during events such as the Wairarapa Arts Trail.

Born in Manchester, England, it’s hardly surprising Jo Constable has a love for all things industrial as well as typography and graphic design. She loves breaking rules, thinking outside the creative box and extending herself creatively. Her first love, however, is printmaking.
