Mucky Paws Pottery is the creative, playful venture of hobby potter Karen Urwin, situated in a picturesque olive grove not far from the shores of Lake Wairarapa, near Featherston. Alongside pottery Karen also sells barista coffee and delicious cakes from her small pottery shop/cafe.
The name derives from her trio of mischievous canine companions—Georgie, Basil, and Masie—who inevitably track mud between the studio and home, bringing a delightfully “mucky” touch to the work process.
Every piece produced is a hand-built one-off, meticulously crafted in either throwing or slab techniques. Karen embraces uniqueness over uniformity—she’ll happily design a piece that doesn’t match a perfect set, setting it apart from mass-produced pottery.
Her materials and glazes are chosen for both beauty and durability—all items are oven-, microwave-, dishwasher-, and food-safe, making them functional art for daily use.
