Debra Britten is a graduate of the Wellington School of Design and has a Bachelor in Visual Communication. She has worked in ad agencies, illustrated children’s books, worked freelance as a graphic designer and owned and operated a clothing company in Wellington specializing in screenprinting and painting cloth.
Given the technical nature of the 3 year design course, her work today is diverse and includes drawing, painting, textile work, collage and assemblage.
She has exhibited in Wellington and Auckland and was the Mercedes Benz/ Marsden College Artist in Residence for 2012.
Debra, who has resided in Wellington for many years, was a boarder at Solway College in Masterton and in her final year, was chosen to design and execute a mural on a town wall for a local schools competition.
Her love of the region has finally prompted her to move back to the Wairarapa and new work is greatly influenced by the landscape and country life.
She has exhibited at Aratoi for The Review and Little Jewels, and is a Friend’s of Aratoi committee member.
