Shirlee Wilton creates miniature worlds of colour and light, specialising in intricate lampwork glass beads. Working from her private studio in Masterton, she melts rods of glass over a bench-mounted oxygen-propane torch, carefully shaping each piece by hand. Inspired by her love of the natural world, her work brings to life delicate floral forms, whimsical creatures, and vibrant, swirling patterns.
With a deep fascination for the interplay between light and transparency, Shirlee layers translucent and opaque glass to create pieces rich in depth and movement. Each bead, reflects a moment of observation, transformed into something both intricate and enduring.
Every piece is individually crafted and carefully annealed in a kiln overnight to ensure strength and longevity. Through this process, Shirlee turns molten glass into small, enduring treasures—objects that celebrate curiosity, beauty, and the magic found in the everyday.
