Sandi Maddox paints soft abstracted landscapes which capture the ‘essence of place’.
Exploring the relationship between the landscape and ‘self’. Her interest lies in the spacious stillness, away from daily demands and ‘to do’ lits. Where the expanse of the landscape invites the viewer to slow down and notice the restorative nature of the landscapes rhythm. Her works are created intuitively, from memory of place, by loose gestural lines and layers of paint, which are disrupted and pushed to make exciting marks and textures. Sandi is influenced by British Modernism, particularly Joan Eardley, Ivon Hitchens, and also by Colourfield pioneer Helen Frakenthaler. Sandi studied at The Learning Connexion. She is a founding member of Greytown Art Gallery and her work is held in private collections internationally.
