Cate Godwin is a printmaker whose practice is grounded in both intaglio and relief
processes. Her work explores interior and exterior environments through landscape
and still life, often incorporating a Pacific context. Drawing on her background in
textile design, she creates original patterns inspired by local plants and natural
textures, reflecting a strong interest in surface and repetition.
Godwin’s practice continues to evolve, with recent work moving into mixed media
painting as she explores a looser, more abstract approach. She studied under John
Drawbridge and Kate Coolahan at Wellington Polytechnic, completing a Diploma in
Textile Design, and later gained a Postgraduate Diploma of Fine Arts from Massey
University, alongside a Diploma of Teaching.
With over 25 years’ experience teaching visual art at secondary level, she brings
depth and discipline to her practice.
